The world's heaviest average rainfall, about 11,873 mm (467 in) per year, occurs at Mawsynram, in north-eastern India, where moisture-laden air from the Bay of Bengal is forced to rise over the Khasi Hills of Assam State in the monsoon season.
Other extreme rainfall records include nearly 1,168 mm (46 in) of rain in one day during a typhoon at Baguio, Philippines; 304.8 mm (12 in) within one hour during a thunderstorm at Holt, Missouri; and 62.7 mm (2.48 in) in over a 5-minute period at Portobelo, Panama.

I don't know how your test is formatted, but I think it's more important to understand the distribution of the worlds climates than to have a couple of random place names. Generally places near the equator have alot of rain (rising warm, moist air = rain). Mountains also force air to rise and can be places that recieve lots of rain on the windward side. Deserts tend to be around 30 degrees latitude because the air is falling and tends to be drier air from the upper atmosphere. Some of the tropical climates that receive alot of rain, receive monsoons, or seasonal wind changes. During the part of the year that the wind blows from the continent to the sea it is relatively dry, when it blows from the moist sea towards land, you have lots of rain. Other places are humid (Eastern US) we receive rain through out the year, if you have to compare places and say who gets more rain this is useful to know. Below are some climate and also helpful...precipitation map links.
