I assume that you're asking about a plan in which the winter's gas bills are paid over the entire year. This isn't a bad idea, in general, but you'll want to go visit your local gas company's office and have them tell you what the usual gas bills for your place are likely to be. People move in and out of houses and apartments, but the utility companies know what those units use each winter, and they'll tell you what the best course to take would be.
Do the same with the electric company, too.

we just moved as well and we did not get the equal billing but after the last three months just a couple of days ago my wife got us on it .our bill ran 300 dollars the first month and 342 the second month this was shocking and now our bill will be 98 dollars a month. i would suggest doing this as you sign up.

i know that with embridge gas you only pay from i think it is Sept to April and in the summer months you pay what you use. i highly recommend it otherwise you get stuck with high bills and the gas company have no patience when someone owes them money
