I majored in Finance. The program was 2 years of hard work. I just found at the bookstore a SPARKNOTES pamplet that CLEARLY covers the whole program in 3 pages, to the point. It was everything I was taught, and more, in a clear, concise presentation, written so clear in fact, that anyone, even those with no knowledge of finance, can understand it. Was my 2 years in college, then, totally worthless (considering I could have just learned finance in 2 or so hours, reading this pamphlet)?

No, college wasn't a waste of time because you now have a degree that can help you get a career. You may have learned everything in that pamphlet, but the pamphlet won't ensure a career... :)

Maybe academically it was a "waste" if you didn't take anything else but socially and developmentally it was crucial to your future well-being and self-esteem. Would you have just bought the book instead of going to school if you knew about it back then? College is a filter I think. It filters out those who are lazy, hopeless and who have no drive to succeed. In those two yeas of hard work you learned a lot more than just finance. You obviously learned study habits, multi-tasking, time management, social skills, teamwork, problem-solving and you learned the value of a dollar. I also noticed that you are well-educated because of your well-written, grammatically correct question. Even if you used spell check it still shows that you care if there are errors in your question. Screw the pamphlet. It's for lazy, dumb people and you are none of those. Congrats and hats off to you sir. I wish I could have gone to college. Sigh

Well if you can go to an interview and say that you stayed a Holiday in Express last night and read a pamplet on Finance and actually get the job, all congrats

Maybe it just seems a lot easier now because you already know it? And yes, college does seem to be a big waste of time....they really need to start teaching people common sense there rather than the useless chit noone ends up remembering anyways.

I wouldn't say that your college years were worthless but I do believe that collage is a filler and that for most jobs it is not necessary to spend 2 to 4 years in school

The knowledge of books is one thing, but the experience of life is another. The experience itself is priceless.
