Fascism is a word thrown around by people that have idea what the term means. In reality, fascism is a system based on economic socialism that leads inevitably to a tyranny, and ultimately to partial enslavement and murder (Nazi Germany, the old Soviet Union, North Korea, Cambodia, Cuba, etc).
But for some Muslims that think that way (surely not the majority) its use is not oxymoronic.

The Islamists, whose goal is to Islamize the world, are behaving like fascists. haven't you noticed?
"Islamofascism" suggests an association of the ideological or operational characteristics of certain modern Islamist movements with European fascist movements of the early 20th century, neofascist movements, or totalitarianism.
Organizations that have been labeled "Islamofascist" include Al-Qaeda (and its supporters such as the Salafi Group for Preaching and Combat, JI in Indonesia, etc.), the current Iranian government, the Taliban, the Muslim Brotherhood, Hamas, and Hisb'Allah.
An oxymoron my foot!

Please explain how it is an oxymoron. Well I think I see your logic, so I will will proceed. Even if it is by definition an oxymoron, it doesn't mean it doesn't make sense, "holy war" can be considered an oxymoron, but that doesn't stop its use. It makes sense because an islamic fascist is a person who wants to create a fascist style government based on the teachings of the Prophet of Islam. Even Idealogically this style of government aligns with Fascists, Falangists, and all other types of Right Wing Reactionary governments or groups.

Oxymoron? Hardly. Christian Muslim would be an oxymoron.
The idea that some muslims would like nothing more than to replace western democracies with statist theocracies (like Iran, like Afghanistan used to be) isn't going away anytime soon.
Why would CAIR (the Committee on American Islamic Relations) call for the replacement of our Constitution with a Caliphate based on Sharia Law?

It really isn't an oxymoron. The vast majority of Muslims are decent people who would be perfectly good neighbors for most anybody. Regrettably, there are the fruitcakes who bring disrepute on the whole religion.

Actually several regimes in the middle east had support and direct ties to Nazi Germany in the 1940's. They shared a common goal. To annhilate Jewish people, and, to crush powers in the west. Make no mistake, some of these regimes are ruthless, bigoted to the point of criminal, and support those who wish true harm to western civilization.

Oxymoron? The Islamic religion + Fascism (a fanatical, jingoistic, ultra-nationalistic belief). I think it rather fits perfectly.

I would not go so far as to call it an oxymoron, for one thing. The two words are not opposites, canceling each other out, nor are they synonyms, making them redundant.
Perhaps misnomer is the word you were looking for.
Regardless, it is simply a term to distinguish between peaceful Muslims and terrorists. What specifically is your problem with that?

Islamists use fascist techniques. Why do you have trouble with this concept?
It may be abhorrent, but it is a fact.
