You have to be a high-powered mathematicians to understand all the calculations.

Also you have to be very knowledgable in physics and chemistry to understand the forces at work and the composition of the bodies you are studying.

As far as personal qualities, you have to be an innovative thinker to formulate and test your own theories and have to be very thorough and meticulous in your work because there is a horde of very sharp other astronomers who will review and critique everything you publish.

an astronomer should never be satisfied wid all the discoveries done so far.The universe is huge and still expanding and there are still millions of things out there ready to be discovered.So if u r planning to be an astronomer then have confidence and EXPLORE!!!
