I own a shop, and have field beat many in my day. Turned over many too. Used to have a circle track in a mud hole, and that was fun as sh*t man. As for your problem; it sounds to me like the starter drive is weak, going bad, or there is a spot on the flywheel that have some missing teeth on it. When it gets to that spot it will make all kinds of noise. If you are talking about the noise happens just as you let off the switch, this is a weak spring in the starter drive. It lets it disengage a bit too soon causing a screeching noise. I know the noise you are talking about, and this is the only answer I can come up with. I too have heard what you are talking about, and it does seem to be on more than one vehicle. This has to be the reason for it, but it might be a starter drive needing some grease in it too. That would make that noise too. Just turn your music up man, and you won't know its there. Better yet, I don't think the whole vehicle will last long enough to worry about it. I have heard the same noise on other vehicles too, so I don't think it is just the 305's that do it, but the 305's seem to have it more than all others do.
Glad to help out, Have fun!!!

The "Bendix" on your starter... or... the solonoid for your starter is going out.

When either one finally goes out, you won't have to worry about the noise... cuz it won't work anymore.

If you intend to keep this vehicle running, either as a beater or as primary transportation... get the starter & solonoid checked out by a mechanic you can trust.

Soon.
