It depends what you mean by more efficient. You will not be using as much gas in a 4 cylinder car as in a 6 cylinder car but you might also have less power so you might need more gas to go as far as with a 6 cylinder engine. You will need to read the car's stats to find out which is more economical. (mpg, etc..)

Depends on the weight of vehicle and driving style of the driver. A smaller engine will use more gas than a larger one if it has to pull too heavy of a load and the driver has a lead foot. A smaller engine has to compensate by dumping large amounts of fuel in order to get the power which equals lower efficiency.

depends on a lot of things. and no, just because the 4 banger might get better gas mileage does NOT mean it's more efficient.
