I unicycle and wouldn't give it up even if it was. I think it would be safer on a sidewalk though.

depends where you live. The first link below says probably not in California. But in the UK you should be OK.
I think in ohio vehicles are defined as having at least 2 wheels, so if unicycles aren't vehicles, they aren't street legal.
In general there seems to be room for interpretation, as people who make laws usually don't unicycle.
I'd keep out of the way on busy streets, using the sidewalk is safer, and it is unlikely anybody is going to write you a ticket for it, your local police is unlikely to know the exact law about it either...

im pretty sure u can take them on the footpath/sidewalk. I wouldn't recommend takin it on the road even in a bike lane.

in fact i try to avoid big crowds in general when riding cos all u get is stupid jokes, stares and a tonne of people wanting to have a shot

where ever a bicycle is legal, a unicycle is legal.
