A stock quote is the agreed upon price paid for the last transaction made for a certain security. An example would be say the stock quote for MSFT was 30.31 that just means that the last transaction of MSFT stock the two parties agreed to upon that price for the stock.

These are prices that various stock prices trade at. Prices go up and down throughout a trading session. Each quote is an actual transaction that has occurred.
