When the gas pedal is hit when enetering the highway the RPMs surge wierdly. Then the cra switches gears and it doesn't happen again. Also When going up hills it will do the same thing. The car only has 22000 mile on it. What is the problem?

I have been running the vehicle like this for two weeks. If the transmission fluid is low, have I screwed up the car in any way.

You have a transmission with low fluid. Have the car running at operating temp, in park, sitting level at check the transmission fluid. Gm's usually display this problem when it is 1 quart low. The acceleration on the highway forces the remaining fluid to the back causing the pump to suck air, effectively putting the trans. in neutral momentarily. Same as going uphill.

Try changing the fuel filter.
