So I'm a singer-songwriter with about 30 songs I've written and i don't know where to go from here. I guess I should start playing locally but how do i go about doing that?

Aight,

you can check out local coffee-houses. You should team up with other local acoustic artists and ask if you can open for free. Check with local clubs that host acoustic mucis and send the m a demo.

Do not expect $$$ for doing what you love, at least not yet (hey, Jewel lived in her car in Pacific Beach, San Diego while she was doing latte shows . . .
Also, do some busking (street playing). The crowd changes every 1-2 minutes, so you may only need a handful of songs that you can repeat. (p.s. put some ones, and quarters in the guitar case when you get out there - NOT $5's . . . nobody tips a street musician w/ 5s).

If your town has some kind of talent show or summer festival, you can try to get a spot. or you can talk to cafes and such to see if they do anything like that.
