Don't take Motrin or Advil (ibuprofen.) It is an anti-inflammatory, and anti-inflammatories do not have good reputations in pregnancy. Tylenol is actually much safer, but no more than a normal dose. I would try some natural things first, like:

Hot teas (try a catnip or spearmint, or chamomile) sweetened with honey

Honey and lemon juice

Sucking on a peppermint candy

Gargle with warm salt water

Good luck!

Good and important question. How bad is the sore throat? A sore throat in anyone pregnant or not can be insignificant (minor irritation) or significant(infectious) . Since you didn't describe how bad the sore throat was, lets assume it is bad (very painful) and persists. It could be strep (which is common and very contagious). You will need a test (rapid strep) and or throat culture. If positive, you will receive one of three antibiotics including penV or G(a shot), amoxicillin etc., all pretty safe in pregnancy (cat B). Strep throat, while not dangerous to the fetus can have bad consequences later on for you (Rheum. fever etc). Other serious infectious causes of sore throat include toxo (from cats), CMV, diphtheria, measles, other viruses all of which can be harmful to the baby. Therefore, if it is a mild sore throat, you can probably just treat with liquids, tea, cough drops etc. You should have a good relationship with your OB to the point that you feel comfortable going in for anything. However, if it is a bad sore throat (pain, exudate, swelling) and persists, you should get it diagnosed and treated. Always err on the side of safety. Any illness that seems routine when not pregnant needs extra attention when you are pregnant. Good luck and let us know how it turns out.

Lozenges. I know sweetie, I've been there.
I also drank hot orange juice, because I always crave hot liquids when I'm sick, and at night I want to avoid the caffeinated beverages.
I also drank Lemon tea, black, with honey. Also caffeine free...
Those three things are my recommendation.
Good Luck!

to help heal, gargle with warm salt water. to sooth, the doctor's say hard candy is just as effective as cough drops. try some honey with lemon in hot water as a soother...make it thick and sweet. you can take some extra vitamin c for defense.

Decaffeinated tea with honey. Or warmed (in the mirowave) ginger ale (sounds gross but it works).
