This is how your cognitive (mind) social development develops over time. Look into Piaget or Erik Erickson. For example as an infant you may only interact with your primary caregivers but as a toddler you might start to interact and explore your social environment more but only with the approval of a caregiver, etc...
This is simple way to put it.
