Although I am in no way in favor of Obama or Hillary, and a conservative Republican to boot, let me say that military service does NOT necessarily mean a good military leader. FDR was only the Secretary of the Navy...he never served a day. Thomas Jefferson, James Madison, John Quincy Adams, were never soldiers, to name a few. Remember that Reagan's service was as a maker of war films, not as an actual soldier.

George Bush never flew a fighter plane. He taxied it from one point to another and that was the extend of his flying. Just because someone was in the military does not necessarily make him or her a great candidate for any government position including the presidency. A smart person would surround himself with military people who could advise him on what should be done in the military. Taking this advise and choosing the right people for ad visors is critical. I served in the military for three years and I was overseas, however, I never could make decisions at this time based on my knowledge gained in the military. I would need a lot of help.

Reagan didn't actually serve in the military either. He made training films. Does that mean he shouldn't have been C in C? No.
The president also oversees the head of federal law enforcement. If he's never been a cop, should have have authority over it? No.
Not having been in the military doesn't mean you don't understand the issues enough to appropriately lead the military. Clinton never served and I believe he did a much better job of directing the military than Bush has so far. Clinton didn't start any unnecessary wars.

I am not a Liberal/Democrat, but Hillary and Obama have never served in the military as for as I know. I know Bill Clinton was a draft dodger. I think Hillary and Obama should not be allowed to judge the military and especially lead it. That is like a female that never had a baby. never been a mother , trying to tell a mother of 4 , what to do in regards to the children. Just a big joke, that is all Hillary and Obama are.

Bush wasn't really "in" the military!! He went AWOL from the Nat. Guard, for heaven's sake. He gets his military info. from his military advisers (and then chooses to ignore it!!!!).
But any President will have military advisers to help with these types of decisions. The nature of war is constantly changing (except for the part where real live human beings DIE!), and even if someone served in the military 20 years ago, it would not help in the decision making processes of today.
I don't expect the Pres. of the US to be an expert in all fields. I expect them to be intelligent enough to surround themselves with the best minds in the nation on each and every subject, to allow themselves to be guided by these people, and to take the will of the people into consideration!!

Since Cheney dodged the draft 5 times and Bush did NOT serve in Vietnam, and who cares about his chicken service in the National Guard that he got out of six months early there's only ONE question to ask:
HOW could they NOT have screwed up Iraq, since neither Bush nor Cheney ever fired a weapon at an enemy, or EVER stepped on a battlefield??
How come you support cowards? Cowards!

Bush was assigned to a champagne unit for rich politicians' sons during Vietnam. Even that was to much for the prancing little sissy Bush to complete.
After he was installed as "president", he listened to Cheney, Rove, Wolfowitz, Perle, and all the other PNAC cowards who never served instead of to the generals who told him invading Iraq was a mistake.

Why the heck might you opt for for militia workers working your u . s .? Or do you have to be at conflict perpetually. i might lots particularly be ruled via peace loving and compassionate people who do no longer choose for to confirm their toddlers loss of life for a lost reason. Sorry. you may say you will win a conflict till you're blue in the face yet you may't win some thing it incredibly is already lost. Please do no longer take my respond as being pacifistic as I strongly have self belief in protecting my u . s ., if attacked. you purely might desire to seem at historic previous to confirm that once the Allies have been attacked previous to WW1 and WW2 they replied in this way of way that the effect replaced into very final and decisive. it incredibly is whilst and the thank you to combat a conflict. no longer over some crackpot u . s . which you won't be in a position to arise with the money for to throw each and every thing at yet might desire to bypass into like a police tension to maintain the two warring factions aside. would not sound basically like Vietnam and Iraq does it? by the type my father survived the sinking of H.M.S. Repulse, in the Indian Ocean, and helped in the alleviation of Singapore. there have been no wars throughout the time of my 12 years in the R.A.F. yet whilst there have been i replaced into for sure obtainable.

Bush and any senators son gets fast tracked for the airforce pilot school, it's actually part of thier being groomed for politics in your free democratic aristocracy. the rest of us have to wait our turn, it's not that hard to fly a plane. Bush's weekend flight training apparently hasn't taught him to lead an army. He has the most deadly fighting force ever assembled on the face of this planet and he can't control a bunch of impoverished children.
We have generals for a reason, they have a job and the president has his. he should stick to speaches and fancy dinners at the kremlin.
