"The Hero Complex is a compulsion to help others and make the world right." Although it's not a bad thing, try to remember that this attitude might annoy your friends if it's too persistent. Try to care for yourself as much as you do for them.

I also have a hero complex, and I don't think it's bad because there are many people who need help these days and we have lived loneliness and we know that when you have a problem you can't stand in the dark alone, you want someone to help you. That is the kind of people we are, modern day heroes, and even though we are not respected or appreciated most of the time, we feel happy because we made another avoid pain. You start to feel proud, but you must also be careful because there is a thin line between being a hero and becoming the person you want to fight. And someday, if you are not careful you could fall in this trap.

When they say you have a Hero Complex they mean you are driven to save people no matter what the situation. It can be a bad thing if you are doing it to avoid problems in your own life that you don't want to address, or it could mean that you are destined for a life of helping people. Perhaps being a cop, fireman, psychologist or something of the like.

A hero complex orignates from gawkers. You know them, they are the folks standing around watching fires, automobile accidents and human suffering, while not attempting to help.

29 years ago, my family was in a bad accident. I was the only person able to help the rest. I only received a scratch. Gawkers started lining the intersection. We had quite the audience. The only person to help me administer first aid before first responders got there was a biker. I was 15 at the time. To this day, I measure men and women equally. I know who I would have around me. You sound like you may be one of them I would have around. We'd be able to look each other in the eye and know we had help when we needed it.
