The type of buffet I am asking about is like Old Country Buffet. Are there any buffets in France where you pay a certain price and get all you can eat food that you serve yourself?

There has to be one! I am trying to prove a friend wrong.

I have never seen an American style buffet except for breakfast, usually in large hotels that cater to tourists.

However, it is common to see a sort of all you can eat salad bar. These things tend to be very much limited by American standards. But there is just nothing that is the equivalent of the Old Country Buffet.

I don't know, but they do have a much different outlook on food than we do. They believe in quality over quantity, and taking your time to savor a meal. A meal to them is an event, and a time to relax and socialize - they do not shovel and inhale food like many Americans do.

I've been to France twice, and I do not remember seeing an American style buffet, but that does not mean that they do not exist. I am sure that there has to be at least one somewhere.

I have been to France a number of times and have never seen one. Doesn't mean they don't exist. But I doubt it.

The French have a profound respect for the food or beverage that crosses their lips. Their passion for food is all about highest quality, not quantity. They are generally not gluttons. Also, a meal is to be savored among family and friends, not tie on the ol' feedback at the trough at buffets.

Yes, at some places they offer buffets. It's called "Buffet à Volonté" especially it's common for seafood places.

There are some "buffet à volonté" where you can eat all you want. There are some of chinese or indian food.

A more american style maybe at hippopotamus or buffalo grill (a few locations around paris, at least)

No, sorry - or if it is I wouldn't go thinking it wouldn't be good.
We like good food and good quantity, but don't abuse of good things.

I am french, been to Vegas, so I know what is an american buffet.
No there is none in France.
The relationship we have with food is somewhat different than the american one.
What we don't have either is "doggy bags". no need.
The portion you get served in restaurant in France is sufficient for you to enjoy the food and have your hunger satisfied.
No splurging at all.
Sorry Dude!

Ohh I forgot no free refill either for your coke.
