I put her on it, but she just jumps off! I don't think she had one in her cage at the pet shop. Hopefully she will use it because she is fat. I have a hamster ball so I guess I will try that tommorow!

She is so bored in the cage running around, she is so fat she barley fits in the tubes...she sometimes gets stuck!

How long have you had this lazy hamster? ;)

Give it a few days to discover it... hamsters don't have wheels growing all over the place to use in their natural habitat...

Put a few food pellets in the wheel to lure the animal into it.

The hamster will eventually be happily running once it discovers what the wheel is there for.

Be patient and let nature take it's course. :)

Get an exercise ball. Use it 15 minutes 2 - 3 times / day.

First off, her barely fitting in the tubes does not mean she's fat. I have two Syrians who give off the impression of not fitting in the tubes properly. They still do manage (except when their cheeks are too full) Syrians are much bigger than most hamsters. They might look somewhat fat but that is how they are made. I think the tubes were just not created with Syrians in mind. (I even had to return a maze I purchased because they would get stuck). Hamsters that newly arrive from pet shops seem to be a bit slower (at everything) than hamsters who've been out and about longer. Give her some time and she will excel at all her playthings. Meanwhile count yourself lucky as the hamster will eventually drive you bonkers with a noisy wheel. Do put her in the ball tomorrow as she will get bored and/or stressed if she isn't kept active enough. Good luck and enjoy!!!!

Some pet store don't put wheels in the cages, is right. The one I go to finally put one in with their hamsters after I talked to the owner. She seems to take my advise on hamsters, since I have more then they do, I guess. A few of our had to learn what a wheel was and now that's all you hear. Give her some time, in the mean while you could get her on of those exercise balls that roll when she walks. This can help. you said your hamster is fat, are you sure she's not pregnant? This is more often the case in pet store hamsters that don't separate the sexes.

there's no longer something to do with syrian hamsters. in all threat they do exactly no longer desire to apply it. I had 18 syrian hamsters at a time and that they used hamster wheels very usually. i'm undecided in case you could practice a hamster becasue they are not that clever as different pets. the suited element could be to leave them on my own and a few day they might attempt it.

It could be she hasn't discovered it yet. Give her time. If she is new, she's getting used to a lot of new things, a new home, new people, new toys. She may be a bit overwhelmed. She probably needs a little bit of time. Maybe put some treats on the wheel, or a dab of peanut butter (not the kind that is recalled, of course) in different places inside the wheel. That way as she figures out there is a treat, she will walk on the wheel and see that it does something kinda fun! Mine usually figured it all out on their own...

well, some hamsters always use their wheel, but not all do that much. Like my old hamster used to be in it like 24/7, but after it died and i got a new one, that one barely ever goes in it. dont force her to go in, but just keep the wheel there cause you never know if she will want to sometimes.

I had a hamster one time and he didn't use his wheel 'cuz he didn't know what it was, so maybe she's trying to figure out what it is. Give her awhile, she may get on it one day and start running in it.
