The "I" that is self respecting and has self worth is also respectful of others. This person has the ability to recognize that the insights and contributions of others have value.

The egotistical "I" will knock others down in order to feel self worth, but it's a temporary fix that alienates people.

Live well

It is a very good question ,which makes one think and understand what is the difference between Self respect and ego of the self.
Yes. There is a subtle difference between the two.
1)Self respect is to be defended at any cost even if you have to seek some favour from persons other than those from your family, relatives and friends.
2)Ego is to be replaced by humility or to be removed at any cost, even while interacting with third parties and unknown persons too.
3)Keep this in mind always, while dealing with others the interest of both the interacting parties are to be taken care of to reach ‘ win-win’ situation in any transaction between the two

Sai Ram. They are just different aspects of the same ego! It is like the light coming through different filters. Who is feeling the self respect or lack of it? And who is trying to evaluate the self-worth?

Actually there are different layers and different facets of the ego. Awareness keeps shifting. It is like looking at a big mosaic with a spotlight. As the spotlight moves, so does the picture visible change.

The best way to understand this is to read Sri Ramana's teachings. Or just pray and surrender to God/Guru (who is your Higher/ true self).

The teachings of the Holy Spirit . and like getting a hair cut. ego stands up or grows up pretty tall, so much so as to reach through the clouds and on into the heavens, once it does this, it's time for the trim.
