i am in my final year of marketing at university.
i've had a casual retail assistant/cashier job (now on average working 2 times a week, for about 5 hours each) for the last 3 years. However, am thinking of quitting, as i don't really need the mere $100 (or there about), am not stimulated or challenged, and don't get along with some of the managers there. Not to mention, I could devote additional time to my study.

On my CV/Resume, will this job make a difference? If so I might as well keep at it till I graduate and add an additional year to my experience. Plus I can try to accomodate the whims of the managers so that I don't walk away on a completely bad note.

I heard work experiences, and internships are important, but what about something like this?

i am majoring in markeitn and would like to work for an advertising firm or a pusblishing office. the kind of job i do at my work is mostly cashier, and putting stock out. the shop is like a smaller target/wal-mart type of middle to cheap brand of cosmetics, and bits and pieces for the home, and such.

so it is not directly related, but i guess customer assistance is relevant to most careers later on.

+1 to Lisa's answer.

Quitting jobs on a good note is OK as long as you give at least 2 weeks notice and don't have a record of getting a new job every month.

You sound like a stable person.

Employers look at inconsistencies and bad work history as a negative , eg switching from job to job all the time. Leaving an entry level cashier job is OK. As long as it's on a good note. Using these employers to network and as references will serve you right in the long run.

Could be important if it's in your field

Came to work for my county employer - had worked for them one summer in 1976 taking inventory - when we got to orientation - I had a higher seniority number than someone older than me coming into the same department - because I had previously worked for the county

when we placed our bids for shifts three months later - we both bid the same shift - I got it - they had to go to the opposite shift

You're in marketing - you have experience in retail . I'd keep it on the resume and puff it.

Absolutely 0, unless you were fired or have a criminal record from the job or something.
