There are no actual charges as long as you didn't endanger anyone else in the attempt: driving into a brick wall, or while intoxicated with alcohol or drugs/pills. Or perhaps jumping off a balcony and almost hitting someone on the ground. If you are home alone when the attempt was made you will be admitted to the psychiatric ward at the hospital after the ER has stablized you. You will only be released once you can prove you are not a threat to yourself anymore and will probably have to go to an outpatient program for a time after that. You will also probably be prescribed anti-depressants.

Suicide can be illegal depending on which state you live in. It could be attempted murder, or manslaughter. It could even be charged as an armed criminal action. It would most likely be chargeable as an assault with intent to kill. Pressing these charges could be the step a prosecuting attorney can use to get someone help.

I just saw something about that here. If you go to wftv.com and hunt around, there is a story about a guy who tried to suicide by driving his car into a local mall. He lived, the mall was a mess and when he got out of hospital he was arrested, but I am not sure what for. The story on wftv.com ought to tell you lots more.

It depends what state you are in. You would have to look at the state laws. Many times it depends on what the district attorney decides to do. Many state have their penal codes listed online, so that might be an area to look to.
