lately all ive been listening to is my chemical romance. i downloaded their three albums and thats all i listen to. Are they TOO emo? i know some people who are REALLY emo and THEY tell me My Chemical Romance is emo.

Labels are stupid. "OOOOO he's a prep!" or "Ewww he's emo!" So childish. Are you going to let some 12 year old decide what you listen to? Listen to what you want.

Well, they definitely fit in with the current description of 'emo', and i'd say they are a model of that style. However, in actuality, they're more of a whiny goth rock band, as most bands of this style are. Thank the record companies for making our music sound the same as everything else! But even in the mid 90s, when music was actually good, everything in rock was classified as 'punk', even when the bands were nothing like that.
The only recent band that I would classify as pure 'emo' would probably be Simple Plan. I was always under the impression that emo is a softer version of a classic punk style... basically take the rythm and style of a band like The Sex Pistols or The Clash, tone them down quite a bit, and give them more mellow lyrics. Just cause you dress like The Crow doesnt make you emo.

Okay, first of all: LABELS ARE STUPID. They limit people and in the words of Søren Kierkegaard "you label me, you negate me".
So now that we've got that out of the way, you should like the music you listen. If you've been listening to them a lot lately then you obviously like them, and it's awesome to find a band you like. If you really like them, how could you question them just because they're "too" something...especially "too emo" because THEY'RE NOT. yeah they may have some elements of emo but they have elements of a lot of genres. so shut up and like what you like

First of all I think labels are really stupid, but that put aside, no theyre not an emo band. Theyve even been quoted confirming that they are NOT emo and dont like being called that.

I suppose they are. I like their music 2. Like Lara P says, u can also listen to Panic! At The Disco or Fall Out Boy. They have they same sound which is also emo. Anyway u don't have to give a damn to what other people say about emo. Listen to what u like. I don't think there is anything wrong with emo.

ok they are not emo. Even Gerard himself stated 'i think of emo is f***ing rubbish, it is bulls***. i think of there is bands that regrettably we get lumped in with that are considered emo and with the help of default that starts to make us emo. All i will say is everybody extremely listening to the archives, positioned the archives next to a minimum of one yet another and hear them and there is extremely no similarities. i think of emo's a pile of s***.' properly something alongside the traces of that. they actually think of their song is like 'Violent Pop'

I've listened to my chemical romance for a long time, don't listen to them or not listen to them just because of what genre they are pushed into. If you like them great, and if you don't stop listening to them...

all the real emos I know say they arent, but all the magazines say they are
their old stuff I would probably say was emo, but the black parade isnt
I dont really care what the hell they are, I love their music, it makes me happy, and thats all that matters in the end
