I'm a ACLJ fan who would like to see the end of the ACLU. The ACLU is anything but for the people and have taken the rights from many good people and given rights to all the wrong people.

I think the original mission of the ACLU was right on track. But, in its current form, it sticks its nose places where it has no business. They do not look out for the civil liberties of all Americans, just the ones who's ideals are fairly far to the left.

And, before people start throwing out the "well you must be a conservative" responses. I am an atheist libertarian for the record.

I am also a gun owner who does not support the NRA. These are two organizations who started out for the right reasons, but have gotten way off track from the original mission.

So, I do not support the ACLU personally.

On the one hand it is an organization that will take up the cause of the little man in their fight with "City Hall', (that's government for you youngsters). On the other hand you have to question the motives of a bunch of lawyers who get paid win, lose, or draw, by the very government they lock horns with. And in case it just seemed to fly past you, those millions they win for the 'little people' comes out of the national til, meaning your hard earned tax money. The bottom line is that the majority of cases filed by the ACLU, and I'm not talking a miserly 51% here, would never see the inside of a court room if these ACLU lawyers weren't sticking it to the tax payer but good. As far as I'm concerned they can take their "Nobel calling' and stick it where the sun don't shine because its all about the money sweet heart, its all about the money.

I agree with the general idea that the government should respect the civil liberties of all people and that an organization LIKE the ACLU is needed to do what they do. But the ACLU goes too far, in my view, with some of their definitions OF civil liberties. For example, I don't agree with that organization in its interpretation of the Establishment Clause and the way that they literal toward that goal. I don't agree with them in their interpretation of "unenumerated rights." If the ACLU would just stick to the issues of guaranteeing the free exercise of religion and speech, press, and assembly and to the issues of the procedural rights of criminal defendants, I would have much more respect for them and I would support them more.

I consider the American Civil Liberties Union a necessary evil, much like a prostate exam. It is important to have organizations that watch over our freedom, the ACLU, however, only champions the rights they like. You won't hear them defending the 2nd Amendment. You will see them litigating on behalf of sexual predators. Often. Hence the nickname "American Criminal Liberties Union" Basically they do one of the most important jobs in America--In an incredibly irresponsible way.

the idea of the aclu was a good one but as usual it has been taken to extremes and the freedoms which it is supposed to stand for and support has been abused. They are now a completely radical group, with no morals or standards of any kind. Take for example the fact that they have fought for the rights of groups like NAMBLA. The next terrorist attack should destroy them.

In a republic, it's important that all views find expression. The ACLU performs an important function in that it serves to highlight issues of Civil rights, and has the monetary means to force consideration at higher levels of the law.

I certainly don't agree with the stands they take on every issue. I don't think we need Nazi's marching in my little town.

But I respect the fact that these folks are willing to take these issues to the higher levels of the judicial system, where a decision can be made on a constitutional basis.

In short, ACLU expresses one point of view, and the courts ultimately determine the validity of their position, based on constitutional law.

I'd rather have that situation, than having no one look at these issues.

Pathetic!!! These are the wimps and winers of society! If the ACLU is behind an issue 99% of the time it means responsible Americans should be against it!! Does the NAMBLA case ring a bell??

It seems as though they are only interested in taking cases that will prop up their "image". Particularily, cases that will gain media attention. However, they recieve hundreds of case requests every day, so it must be a nightmare to try and just sort through the legit cases versus the "complaints". As a registered independent, I view them as anti-republican, and rather liberal, which may be good for you if you have a problem with a public institution, such as a university (sort of), or corporation that has wronged you.

It is one of the WORST organizations ever formed! It is the reason 19 hi-jackers turned our world upside down....and many other things they stand for. The A in ACLU stands for ANARCHY!
