this doesn't really explain much. children get sick...why would CPS get involved unless someone reported you?
what the heck is going on?
they cannot come in your home unless they have a court order or the child is in immediate danger.
beat them at their game, go to the hospital NOW and have the child seen. if CPS wants to question you they can do it there with the doctor present.

Since you didn't indicate what type of respritory trouble your newborn is in I can't give you any idea as to what to expect fro cps, because I don't know why they would be called. Obviously someone somewhere doesn't think this child is getting the care it needs

Aside from what else you didn't tell us about the situation, the only thing I can conlcude from what you are saying is that maybe the child's doc called in a report of negligence, or maybe cps got involved for fear that you can not financially or physically take care of your small child.
If that is the case, then it is up to you to prove them wrong. It would also not hurt to start looking for attorneys ( just in case) becasue the sooner you get one the better. Things can go wrong very fast with cps. A simple investigation could turn in to months of being invloved with them and months of battling for your baby in court, if they see fit.
At the most, they may just come out and ask to see the baby and see how you interact with him, your house, where the baby sleeps and if you are adequate enough mentally, physically and financially to take care of him. Just cooperate with them, and answer questions truthfully, but don't disclose too much! WARNING!! Everything you say can and will be used against you!
Even if the social worker comes off as friendly and trusting, you cannot trust these folks, ever! They will lie and twist the truth to their agenda and with little to no consequences! No one is there to keep these folks in check, so they do as they please. But like if you're tired and say that you are tired, because they baby was up 3 nights straight, and you had another child that you were taking care of as well; that innocent statement to most people would bring sympathy and comapssion, but not cps, it will only be used against you, and you will be made to look like you are having your hands full with the sick child and are neglecting your other child or that you are incapable of handling a sick baby.
I know this sounds crazy, but cps is a corrupt agency and you would have to experince their reign of terror to know what I'm talking about. Your situation may be different, and I hope it turns out better than most people's dealings with them. Only time will tell. In the mean time, good luck. And be safe from them.

Child Protective Services is not coming to take your baby away. They go into homes to make sure the environment is healthy and safe for the child, and offer resources to help you if you need help.
They will ask to see where the baby stays. They will ask if anyone in the home smokes inside the home. They will make sure the temperature in your home is adequate for a newborn. They will check to see if you have pets and if the home is clean in regards to those pets. They will ask how you are feeding the child, how you prepare the formula, if you have needs in that regard.
People tell horror stories about CPS, but they are there to help the child and the family. No one wants to take a baby away from its mom/family just to be mean. There has to be ample reason to do so, and it does not happen as often as some people say.
Make sure your home is clean, dust-free, and your newborn's clothes are clean, as is his/her room, bed, sheets, etc.. If anyone in your home smokes, make sure they understand that there will be NO SMOKING in the home from now on. Have your pediatrician's phone number available in case there would be an emergency, show that you are a responsible parent.
Be yourself. Be open to ideas and questions. Good luck to you!

Why was cps called? You should probably expect a lot of questions on parenting and all that kinda stuff. I hope you are not harming your baby. If you are then just pass him/her on over now.

I am not quite sure why CPS is involved...but once they come in your life they are usually there forever...i think CPS needs to bother the families that are really abusing or neglecting their kids...they seem to target families over bs stuff and that is just wrong...good luck to you!!

They will take the baby. If they don't I'd be surprised. I wouldn't allow them in my home if it were me. I'd ask them to meet me at the doctor's office to answer any questions they have. It's a nightmare once you get involved with cps.
