Well, this is just me, but I love it. I love names that mean something and have a history, but still sound strong and substantial. Magnus means the greatest in Latin. It was a cognomen, like a title added on at the end of a name to differentiate a man from his father. Gnaeus Pompeius Magnus was the most famous Roman to have this name. He was one of the most respected of Julius Caesar's friends/rivals, the one who was married to his only daughter. He was a brilliant general and a great man who came from very humble beginnings to become a legend. Yes, I like this name. Take a risk, and you won't be sorry because your baby will grow into his name and make you love it for his sake.

I went to high school with a guy named Magnus. He seemed nice enough and the name really did suit him. Its a strong silent sort of name.

Are you expecting your son to be big and very blond? That's the image I have when I hear the name Magnus.

I do like the name. It's unusual without sounding made-up.

How about other Roman names like Mattimus, Julius, Octivius, Augustus, Bruticus, Marcus, Aurelius, Cyrus, and Maximus?

I think if you name your son that, he'll be likely to be nicknamed "Maggie" and made fun of for a very long time. Being made fun of because of your name is probably the worst thing you can be made fun of for, even compared to appearance. Appearances change; names usually don't.

I think it Depends, you should probably call her "Mag" for short. But yeah, i think it is pretty cute, as long as you are not out of style but as long as "magnus" dresses cute its all good lol.
