Why is there alway an idiots like "sgsuhas" (above) who copies and pastes a whole book from Wikipedia when he really doesn't know the answer? It's rude and takes up unnecessary space when he can just copy and paste the URL.

All food in the US is good. Common for one person may not mean the next person considers it to be common. There is no way to know what is the most common food of the United States of America.

Obviously convenience food hands down!

But if you're looking for something more specific, depends on what you're trying to measure... I've attached a USDA report they actually look at addressing this question, sort of...

Personally, I would be a starch eater...breads, fries, rice, pasta, etc.
