Hello...

I have a 40 gig external hard drive. I have 2 PCs, both with windows home xp. When I move files from one onto the external drive and attempt to access them on the other I can because of privelage errors. I need to boot in safe mode from the second pc, and change the owner to the files. This is a long painful process.

Is there a way I can stop this once and for all?

Thanks!

Is the external drive an NTFS or FAT32 (or other) file system?

Your question says you "can" access them, but do you really mean "can't" because of the errors?

I've got a similar set up and have no problems with several computers accessing the external files. The external drive is set up as FAT32 so I don't have to worry about permissions.
