Do people not read books anymore? I have seen so many reviews about how they thought it was a Narnia type movie and because of this they did not like it at all. Sorry, I know I am gripping but it just erks me to hear people make stupid comments about books made into movies and they have not read the book at all!!

The reason I posted this question twice is because it is both a movie and a book. So I posted it in the movie section and the book section.

Hartstock- I agree , however, by not reading the book that takes away their right to complain. They should have at least researched this before taking their children to the movie.

I agree. If you are taking a small child to a movie (under eight or nine), do your homework. Read a review or two, and find out what the movie was about. Bridge was advertised for a month or more, depending on how many movies you watch. That's pleanty of time for a parent to check out the book and skim it. Every trailer advertised the book. It's only 128 pages long. Even if you don't have time to read the book, skim a review. No one wants to reveal the ending, but in this case, I think it's necessary for parents to be aware of. I don't want to hear complaints about not knowing what the movie was about. There's enough information out to let you know.

Look, I love to read and do so very much. I had never heard of this book, but when I saw the previews, I became interested in it. I planned on reading it, and still do, but I did take my kids to see it on opening night. The way the movie is marketed, it is played up to be a movie about two children who "enter" a world that they made up. There is absolutely nothing done in the trailers to give an idea of what it is really about. It was really misleading and eventhough I enjoyed the movie and thought it was good, it was nothing like it was played up to be. For me who have two girls (13 and 8) whose mother died less than a year ago, I would have rather waited to rent it and then be able to discuss issues when they happened in the film. But they did well and liked the movie.
As far as complaining about people watching the movie and not reading the book, what the heck do you think the movie was for. Just because people went to see the movie without reading the book doesn't make them unintelligent and stupid. That was the purpose of making the movie, not to sell books, but to sell seats and dvds. Which I beleive is why it was marketed the way it was.

I enjoyed the movie more than my 7yrold daughter and my 5yrold son. (I didn't know it was a book, but now that you mention it, I'm interested in reading it.) I agree with one of the responders here that the way it was marketed and advertised was misleading. My kids were really expecting a Narnia type movie. I was expecting the same. My kids may be disappointed but I'm not. It's a very touching movie, good story and script, very well acted.
I understand your frustration about some people trying to be smart about books made into films. As I said, they're trying to be smart. Pardon their ignorance.

People don't like to read any more unless it is manditory (with exceptions of course), they would rather see a movie about a book ... And people just like to complain. I prefer reading a book and then seeing a movie. To know what the accurate differences are compared to the movies changes.

Reading is a dying pastime. People prefer to see the "Cliff's Notes" versions of books--aka-movies. It's sad actually.
If people truly want to know what a movie is about and it is BASED on a book, read the book first. Then you would know what you are getting yourself into.
Most people I know who read the book won't be taking their child to the movie--I won't give away the reason. Read the book if you want to know. :)

because it is nothing like the wonderful book and the stupid director changed the whole story and i think it is better as a book rather than a movie.
