If you ask to buy a violin at a music store, you're going to get a violin. If you ask for a fiddle, you'll probably get the same thing. It really is just a different playing style, but if you want to get technical, a violin can be outfitted to sound like anything you want it to, from twangy aluminum strings and sticky rosin to gold plated strings and carbon fiber bows. If you really want versatility, get an electric violin.

Technically, they are the same. A fiddle is just a nickname for a violin. A lot of people that play bluegrass music call it a fiddle, but they are one in the same!

simplest way to explain this...fiddle is a violin. other than the style of music that is played on it the only other difference is how it is tuned. violin is tuned e-a-d-g. a fiddle consists of two a- i do believe.. this allows for better tuning and less movement in the fingers.

no, a fiddle is played in folk music, and a violin in classical, but essentially the instrument is the same thing. the key to the difference is in the playing style.

No. The difference is in the type of music you play on it. You play classical music on a violin, foot stompin' music on a fiddle.........but they are the same instrument.
