My husband needs a laptop that he can take in his truck. We have a remodeling/landscaping business (also new construction) and we need to know what we would need on the laptop. He would use it for the business only but we'd probably need a lot of memory for invoices, customers info., etc. Anyone have any idea what would be best for us?

The brand is a matter of personal preference. You can find horror stories about just about any brand, so it's not worth worrying about. Some laptops are designed to take a lot of abuse, which might be a good idea if this laptop is going to be carted around from site to site. Failing that, a good service plan is a must, expecially one that covers accidental damage. dell has a good one, and I'm sure other brands do too. I would recommend Windows XP (Vista is a memory hog and I wouldn't trust it until updates are released), and go with 1 GB RAM minimum (2 GB gives you more flexibility for the future, especially if your husband has any special software for the landscaping, remodeling and construction, or will be running multiple applications at once. A good battery is essential if the laptop is going to be travelling around in the truck all day, because your husband may not be able to charge it up at a moment's notice. A lot of laptops come with 120 GB or more harddrives now, and it's a lot cheaper to just go with a bigger one now than it is to upgrade later, so if you can get a good deal on 200 GB, take it. You probably won't need this much for invoices and such, but better safe than sorry. And when you get it, don't forget to back up all the data regularly on disks in case the computer gets lost, stolen, or damaged, so you can avoid losing important business information. Hope this helps!

For a business I would recommend a laptop which is duel core (most of them are already now) 1.8 GHz and above with at least bare minimum of 1 GB or Ram (Make sure there are enough DIMM slots to upgrade the ram later on down the road). 80 GB Hard Drive, integrated video card (after all its for business no sense wasting money) DVD writer (for backing up information) Make sure the System Bus speed is at least 550 (roughly) MHz, Battery life is important epically in this sort of situation 6 hours is great. The screen size should be 15 inches (anything more will cost you big). And PLEASE don't buy any extended warranty (always a rip off) Pay with your Visa, Martercard or AMEX what have you just make sure your card offers you the 1 year extended warranty plan. (Most of them do anyway) If you have a business credit card use that. If you can Buy online and research in store. Hope that helps.

I have an Acer I have many laptops and desk tops.I have had this Acer Aspire 5000 for over a year it has been great service is in English, what I mean is if you need support you talk to an American. The support is great I had only one problem and it was the sound card had no problem they sent ups out picked it up on a Tuesday back the next Tuesday repaired.DON"T buy a dell there support sucks if he has a problem it takes HOURS to talk to someone you can under stand or that cares most laptops (dell) only have a 90 days and it cost to send back.

I would normally recommend a laptop from IBM/Toshiba, but since you mentioned that this is going mobile for your husbands landscaping and construction business, a toughbook would suit him best. It can withstand being dropped, soaked and even being run over by his truck, something that a conventional laptop cannot. Police and fire departments everywhere use it and so do a lot of construction companies.

Just a normal laptop with maybe a larger HD would be good for you guys. Try looking at http://www.newegg.com thats the website that I like to compare prices with as they are usually the cheapest.
