could be the wires in the house are arcing....need to be checked...or there is too much pull on the power supply...again needs to be checked...you may have to add another circuit to the house... if it is happening a lot ...check it out...

Sometimes- the average cause is a short lived overload on the electrical grid where you live. That means that too many people are using power and the electric company has to step it up a little. It could also mean that you could be using too much on one circuit at home too.
By the way. This occurrence can also be known as a "brown-out".
As an added thought. If you talk to some scientist. They will tell you that solar radiation can cause it too.

A power surge will cause the lights to flicker. There can be many other causes too.

Depends on the lights... if they are florescent lights, they always flicker but you can't normally notice it (until they start to die). If incandescent, the will flicker when there is a power drop (brown-out).

at times, its alright. when your air conditioner/heating unit comes on, it will cause a power surge and a "flicker". this can happen each time or randomly
