Of course he can't. Our borders are porous as hell and our ports are poorly monitored, to say the least. It's a mystery to me why people feel so safe these days. Most of the 9/11 terrorists were Saudis, they sure weren't Iraqis. It isn't as if we're tying up the entire network of Al Queda and splinter groups in this civil war in Iraq, they have no shortage of places to set up their cells.

This a disturbing question. And a very good question. If it's easy for illegal immigrants to come across the border, it would also be easy for terrorists to come across the border too. It's almost like the same problem. If we can keep one out, we could probably keep the other out.
I think we should start fining employers heavily for hiring illegal immigrants. If we did that it could be easier to catch the few people that would still come across the borders, because we wouldn't be overwhelmed by the massive border crossings.
Interestingly, the Bush administration seems reluctant to fine the employers. So then he sets up the situation were we are easier victims for the terrorists.
Building a wall ? You can make the wall 20 feet high. The immigrants will just build a 21 foot ladder. If Bush cared less about bending over backwards for business we might actually have a chance at stopping the terrorists.

The problem is Mexican immigrants now form a surrogate lower class structure in many parts of the country and it's the Americans making a profit or enjoying the cheap labour from problem that stifle success.
9-11 succeeded because of money and no took any notice of the obvious signs of an attack, if you can starve them of money and keep the simple stupid ideas under control then there is a fair chance terrorists can't succeed.

Please, so many in New Orleans, Louisiana are still displaced and the emotions of so many are still unhealed. Although the green cars are running, the red ones to the Canal lines still aren't. There are still devasted neighborhoods. And crimes have gone up. If the Bush Administration has done such a poor and miserable job for Texas' neighboring state, his mind must be floating in Neverland when it comes to Iraq! And he keeps on wasting money in Iraq. Who is going to take responsibility if we lose the war in Iraq after spending more money there. Can the People sue the Senators for going against the majority of the population? Or should we go after the Pro-Israel Zionist NeoCons who are trapping us in this never ending war?

Let us not forget that a terror attack was prevented in late 1999 by custom agents on the U.S. Canada border. A man with plans to blow up LAX was caught at Port Angeles, WA. IMO, we actually need better security on our northern border than on the south one. We don't hear as much about the northern one because of the hot button topic of illegal immigration by folks of Latin decent. As far as I know, there haven't been any terrorists caught crossing the Mexico-U.S. line...the real answer would be to figure out exactly what makes people from Mexico want to immigrate illegally to the U.S., and then help fix Mexico to make it more desireable to live. A economically sound Mexico would solve many problems for the U.S., including the terrorism threat caused by illegal migration.

He is keeping the terrorist out, as for as the illegal Mexicans, the state Governors is the one who is suppose to be handling this, the one in Texas said he is handling it. Yeah right !! Guess every one automatically assumes all the Governor's, Mayor's and the State's elected Politician"s, should have to do nothing, just wait for Bush to wipe their Butt, or the blame him. What we elect all these Representatives and Congreemen for, to play pass the buck and blame Bush. USCIS has proposed increases in fees for naturalized citizenship and for visas, but Democrats are having none of it. Why should immigrants be penalized? Let taxpayers keep picking up the tab! Bush is not the only ONE person who makes decisions, the Demoncrats do to, so blame them.

In January of 2000 there were 7 million illegal aliens living in the United States, a number that is growing by half a million a year. Thus, the illegal-alien population in 2003 stands at at least 8 million. Included in this estimate are approximately 78,000 illegal aliens from countries who are of special concern in the war on terror. It is important to note that the 500,000 annual increase is the net growth in the illegal-alien population (new illegal immigration minus deaths, legalizations, and out-migration). In 1999 for example, the INS estimates that 968,000 new illegal aliens settled in the U.S. This number was offset by 210,000 illegal aliens who either died or returned home on their own, 63,000 who were removed by the INS, and 183,000 illegal aliens who were given green cards as part of the normal "legal" immigration process. One of the most important findings of the INS report is the intimate link between legal and illegal immigration. The INS estimates that it gave out 1.5 million green cards to illegal aliens in the 1990s. This was not due to amnesty legislation, but rather reflects how the legal immigration process embraces illegal immigration and encourages it through legal exemptions. According to the INS, only 412,000 illegal aliens were removed during the decade.
The Census Bureau has also developed estimates of its own. Their estimate at the time of the 2000 Census suggests that the illegal immigration population was about 8 million. Using this number, it can be concluded that the illegal-alien population grew by almost half a million a year in the 1990s. This conclusion is derived from a draft report given to the House immigration subcommittee by the INS that estimated the illegal population was 3.5 million in 1990. For the illegal population to have reached 8 million by 2000, the net increase had to be 400,000 to 500,000 per year during the 1990s.

So now he wants to invade Iran, or something...this guy can't do anything right....
He was probably a cool guy to drink a few beers with, but he is way out of his league as president.
He hasn't done a single thing correctly; hes spent money like a democrat, created the "homeland defense" burocracy, made airplane travel a big pain, he was asleep on the twin towers, and to top it off he can't even find osama.....and he can't move foreward ANY policy to stem illegal immigration. He is ineffectual, and wrong for the country and the planet.

The lie is that people want Mexicans out...Those are just surface statements. The working class most likely wants them out. But to the People who matter politically are eager to gain a cheap labor class. They want cheap housekeepers, construction laborers, vegetable pickers and factory workers. Mostly because there are large segment of the population don't want to do these jobs. Face it people are getting rich of this move and that's why Bush is not real eager to fix this problem. If he wanted to he could stop it, but why when the people who are paying for the campaigns are paying to let it slide.

Good question! By closing our borders and deporting all illegals should be his 1st step. This would solve both problems. Then our Country can Begin to recover from all the damage created by ignoring our current immigration laws. He just needs to stand up and take action, if he doesn't, he will be leaving the option in the hands of the U.S. Citizens, his time is running out. So do you hear that GW its your turn to scratch!

Bush can keep illegals out. Whether he's willing to is another matter.
As an aside, it's interesting that Mexican President Calderon recently talked about tightening Mexico's southern border, mentioning nothing about the illegal flow into the US from Mexico. I'm guessing that's going to be the new border of the NAU within a few years.
