Isn't everyone tired of elitists speaking on behalf of citizens they have nothing in common with?

1) Do you know what the orgins are? For the Republicans, do you mean Taft, Lincoln or Adams? For the Democrats do you mean Jefferson. Jackson or FDR?
2) Would going back to the orgins necessarilly be a good thing? I don't think so, the world has changed.

Elitists have been prominent in both parties for a long time. Taft & Wilson were elitists. So were Adams & Jefferson.

I'm not sure what exactly you want to get back to. I agree that some changes would be good for both parties. All you & I can do is vote for the candidates who come closest to sharing our values.

You mean the true origins? When Republicans were progressives and Democrats were the Southern social elite?

Seriously, I'd say that unless both parties stop their partisan shenanigans, we may find ourselves with a moderate third party (gasp)

How far back? The republicans freed the slaves and the democrats were slave owners in the 1860's. That would be interesting.

There's no going back. The laws change; priorities change; interpretations of the Constitution change. So allegiances change.

And I disagree very much with the premise of your second question.

Nowadays, more republicans act like old democrats and democrats act like socialist and communist.
