I have several old and antique items around my house but I really don't know where to find information on this stuff.

It will be hard to get definitive values using online appraisal. At best, you will get an approximate value. Markings, condition, and authenticity are hard to verify from photographs. Some types of antiques are easier to appraise online than others. Having said all that, there are online options available to give you an idea of the value of your pieces.

A Yahoo search for "free antique appraisal" (include the quotation marks in the Yahoo search box) yields 16,300 results. You should find all the information you need in the first couple of pages of results if you are willing to do the same search and spend a little time exploring. Keep in mind that many websites specialize in certain types of antiques such as ceramics, basketry, tools, furniture, etc.. You may have to check out several unless all of your items are of the same type. Be prepared to submit digital photos and any known history. In some cases, reader forums will offer more information on some items.

Good luck with your search for value.

Don't know of a site, but I do know that there are people who sell antiques who will appraise for a very small fee. Check some of the better "flea markets" and see if you can find a dealer there who will do an appraisal. Also, there are professionals who do estate sales. We have one here in our city who will do an appraisal for a small fee.

Tell me what they are and what marks they have (if any) and I'll tell you right here what they are worth....

Either that... Or check out Kovels on line. They are okay for general value for insurance purposes, but don't expect to get some of those prices in a general sale depending on what they are. They give VERY high end prices.

Everyone knows... In the end, an antique is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it.
