Don't party, drink, or cut class. (You can still act immature every once in a while.)

Very interesting question. The reality is that in college, you will most likely do all of the above, and you will have fun doing it. I'm 35 now, and look back at my college years as definately the most fun years of my life. I wouldn't trade those years for anything.
Did I party five nights a week, drink heavily, cut most morning classes, and do stupid things? Of course I did. But, I still managed to hand in every assignment on time. Were they the absolute best that I could do? Not a chance. But I managed to get by with solid B's, graduate in four years, and live a successful life with a great teaching job, a nice home, a beautiful wife, and two adorable children.
I guess what I'm telling you is that college is supposed to be fun. Go with it. There's plenty of time to get your work done during the day. Just don't get lazy. Of course if you're shooting for straight A's, you'll need to learn to adjust.
Bottom line--Charlie parties and isn't lazy, get a 2.47 GPA. What does he get? A diploma. You study your butt off and get a 3.39. What do you get? A diploma.
Have fun, my friend. There's 40 years of work ahead of you, and you won't have the chance ever again...just don't get lazy.

I had a problem with this as well. What I noticed is that the more I became involved in other activities the less I had to worry about the partying etc.. And when you are involved in other activities you don't really have time do anything besides homework and those activities.
By other activities I mean work, internship, practicum, research, volunteer work, campus clubs and organizations, advocacy work, etc... There is SO MUCH on campus to get involved in and you'll make friends with the same desires as you which will also help.

Go to a college where you will both people who party and people who don't; that way, you'll be able to make friends no matter what. I hang out with people who don't party, so that helps me focus. Also, knowing what your goals in life are before you go to college helps; for example, if you know you want to go to med school, remembering that will help you overcome the temptation to party. Get involved in some actvities and clubs as well, so you don't have time to party. Finally, do remember to have fun; everyone is slightly immature in some way, shape or form; that's how most of us relieve tension and stay sane.

I never had any difficulty partied only when i didn't have any major project/papers the next week, don't like drinking that much, and only cut class a few times but only because i was sick or something- I also had friends in my classes to give me notes if i wasn't able to get to class and i did the same for them.

Go to a college with standards that are significantly below your talent level. Then with minimum time, your efforts will be superior to the best efforts of your classmates.
Beware though, the better the college you go to, the easier it is to find a job with your degree.
OR, you can never party, drink, cut class, or be immature, but that's not fun.
The best way is probably to find a balance.

I live in the substance free dorm. It helps a lot. Plus, a lot of people in the dorm aren't interested in drinking so you find other fun things to do during the evening. The option of partying is still there, you just have to go find parties. Instead of walking in your dorm and having a party going on.
Going to class is easy, if you care about grades you go to class, other wise you don't get good grades.

It's easy... either you are partying, drinking, cutting class and being immature; or you are staying focused.... not both, at least not successfully!

Well you have to accept that you might be the odd ball, but you can wake up early, all fresh and healthy go for a run, feel you have had good rest, score high in your grades, save some of those brain cells and see yourself going ahead of the rest. But give yourself time now and then for a break mingle a bit and do go out. You are young once!

I recommend finding activities that allow you to socialize without other people, like watching old movies and reading books.
Sounds very wierd, but I think you will like it.
