I am a libertarian who believes in minimal government and freedom in a free nation! This means minimal taxes, government out of marriage completely, competitive markets, guns for good citizens(not just the criminals), economic growth, and I am also pro-choice before 6 months, pro-life after! I believe in a nation that is defense not offensive, I don't believe the war on drugs helps society. I am your basic libertarian! No not a liberal or a conservative, I don't like either kinds of big government! I like the founding fathers and I respect freedom for all. Why are these bad ideas? Because of your religion doesn't put their stamp of approval on it? Because Clinton is the best? Come on, honestly, why can't the human race end tyranny? Sucks huh?

They are afraid their vote will be wasted. What they don't consider is the fact that their vote is wasted anyway whether a demo or republican wins.

Mostly they can't out of ignorance about what the Libertarian movement really stands for. Alot of people seem to think of them as republicans that want to get stoned. Even Libertarians don't agree on everything within their own party but at least they're willing to work on it. Someday we may indeed end the mess that the other two parties have made of this country, last time I check that would save us about 40 billion or more a year just on the law enforcement end when we don't have to keep hundreds of thousands of people locked up in our jails for non-violent drug offences. Then maybe we could focus on solving real crime in this country instead of having the lowest murder solving rate in the civilized world. But it may be awhile, people are just too invested in their absolutist ideas on one side or another. Everyone wants to pick a gang rather than share the town.

Liberals are pretty much the opposite of conservatives. Conservatives and the Christian fan base alike dislike many things that the Liberals are known to go for. Gay marriage as far as morals are concerned are a big thing with conservatives, liberals would say let them go and we will pass it into law.... hopefully, that is something that conservatives don't like. Conservatives are for life, liberals are not as far as abortion goes and even the stem cell issue, they just differ.
Each side just has a different view and this case, the conservatives view which is really based more on morals, differs highly from that of liberals.

Why? Because if you don't have some sort of government control, you have cases like Enron, etc. Most laws are passed due to some person or entity who takes advantage of our freedom. I am sorry but you can not trust the masses to be good and law abiding. You make illegal drugs legal, what then? We have half-way houses on every block and still have people selling them illegally.

One one hand I like libertarians' view on civil liberties and keeping government out of our private lives. But I think your overall position on the limits of government are too limiting. We can't trust corporations to keep from dominating individuals. I think the government has a legitimate role in stimulating economic development in ways that will benefit society. You are too close to Republicans on opposing that stance for my comfort.

The fear that democracy is a joke thats what. The fear your vote is wasted!! Thats the thing that stops 3rd parties from assuming their rightful place in this corrupt 2 party system. Why vote if yours could be a "wasted vote". If everyone voted their conscious we wouldnt have a dem or rep in the white house. They are both disasters bought and paid for by lobbyists and campaign contributors.

I agree with your "platform" but no libertarian ever gets close to being electable. When the vote is so close as the last two presidential elections, every vote counts, so people go to their party.
The republican party is closer to libertarianism than the democrats are, with the exception of the religious based things.

Democrats dislike Republicans.
Republicans dislike Democrats.
Neither are very smart.
Neither will vote Libertarian for fear of the other winning the election.

Drug prohibition is the Achiles heel of all democracies and specially of the US. Drug moneys are financing terror world wide. Our soldiers are dying with the bullets bought by drug money and there is no taxpayer base in the world that can compete against drug profits.
