Maybe Tenchi Muyo. Also DNA^2 or Chobits isn't bad but a bit more serious. As the last answerer mentioned, Chobits touches on common themes with a common mood (for example, both the main Persocom and Chobits have a nasty habit of throwing rebelious frustration fits with their romantic interests).
Honestly, though, Ken Akamatsu (creator of Love Hina) is somewhat of a genius with fusing the supposedly conflicting arts comedy and soap opera...I don't think I've ever seen anything on that level (not to mention gorgeous animations are a "cherry on top").
Got to love anime though, it takes all the rules of American media and shatters them to pieces. :-) Good luck on your search.

You could try Chobits, not really romance more comedy but it has a similar feel.
