They used to be, but I think Bush did away with that stuff.
Americans used to practically idolize the Europeans as well as material goods from Europe.
We became the 'hot commodity' in the late 1970s-early 80s, but as I extrapolated :) Bush has made the Haters of the World unite against us Ugly Americans.

This has to be a joke question, lol! Well very funny, sure. In all honesty British people think Americans are idiots. Raging dumb ******** idiots. Personally I think that's a bit overdone, obviously not all Americans are idiots. But so many are! In England it's a given, we don't really discuss Americans because it's taken as staple fact that Americans are dumb. American leaders are the worst because they're the dangerous sort - clever idiots. Bush is a joke, everybody hates him here, you couldn't get more antipathy. I think the rest of the world is as desperate for the Bush era to be over as a lot of you Americans are.

I recently returned from a journey that took me to Germany, France, Switzerland, England and Ireland.
I encountered no European who was in awe of Americans.
Where did you find them?

Are they? We British see you as sort of a rebellious child. You spawned from us , we gave you support and then you decided you'd outgrown us but like all sensible parents, once we saw that you were determined to make your own way in the world. We gave you the freedom you wanted. Who's sorry now?

Because they know in the back of their stupid heads, that if weren't for our bravery they would not have the freedom to sit in their stupid cafes all day and spit venom about what a bunch of animals we were.
They are jealous that we are today, and will always be, #1 on the planet, and it makes them sick.

actually, i hate to burst your bubble but there is a lot of american-phobia going on in England lately... think it's to do with George Bush but the general feeling is that americans are fat loud and arrogant, although I don;t think that because I don't stereotype hehe!
