Toots,

space research is a necessity. It has given us: satellite communications (broadband, or hi-speed wireless), the internet, GPS, and safer (and faster) airplanes. Additionally, better weather prediction, military intelligence, and a chance to answer the age-old question: "Where did we come form, and why are we here?"

If space research was a luxury, then we would spend far more money at NASA. I know this is counter to the argument, but our country spends more on luxury than necessity - just look at the SUV's in California - they are not even four-wheel drive. Best of luck on that paper. Email me if ya want more.

if you are thinking about stuff like space travel, and colonization; think about this. not that long ago, there were less than a billion people on earth. Now the are an estimated 10-20 billion. All those people need resources (food, shelter, ect.). The Earth can only support so much. Also the bigger the population denisity (how many people live in a certain area) the more violence and problems arise. If you think there are a lot of wars now, it is only a matter of time when we are fighting over water and not oil.

Yeah, dj, go back to living in a tree if you want simplicity and spirituality. If you want to live in the present with the rest of us and our computers and cars and tvs, stop complaining about science.

Space research is very necessary. Someday we're going to over populate this planet, and we're going to have to move on to others.

Necessity and, though there are many reasons, I will give you the best one.

This planet cannot support our race indeffinetly. If we do not expand beyond the borders of this sphere, we will surely die.

No 'ifs', 'ands' or 'buts'. It is inevetable.

i think it is also needed but i have an argument about these .

its a waste of money . i beleive that our senses are limited and imperfect. there are so many things that we cannot fathom nd comprehend with the use of our senses. if we try to create a machine that machine created by us wil also be imperfect. so how can we be accurate about things ??

Anyway ..to the sceintists out there ..keep on trying but lets face it ..we are not GOD. and trying to understand the cosmic manifestation is pure speculation and rascaldom. we are only a smal dot in a bigger whole .

lets focus on our spirirtualtiy and seek the simple truth .
