I'm 51 year old female who was injured on my second job. my second job is now paying me only 66% of my income and lost my first job because of disability with my back and neck injury. I have been going to therapy and now they took an MRI after 3 months and found 3 hernirated disc and a nerve inpairment that is effecting my right arm. I have not enough income coming in to pay the rent, car payments and insurance on the car. I have a social security appointment coming up to apply for disability, but that takes several months for approval. I have gone to catholic charities but was denied for help because I don't have enough income and other city agencies are out of money at this time. I Feel hopless and desperate for help. I have tons of paperwork to support my disability. My credit is now ruined. Can anybody help?

Life is sure hell. I have been trying most of these ideas which are all great and the only organization that has helped is St Vincent DePaul. They have very little money at this time but sent my lanlord 500.00 towards January's rent. Every city organization says they have no funds at this time. The housing athority told me to call back in two weeks to be put on a list. I finally got a call from Rush copley hospital and they will start with 1st of three treatments of epidural shot injection of steroids in my spine. Hopefully this will relieve some pain for me to work soon.
I need to borrow gas money

First, you should be able to find an attorney that can handle such cases. They are listed in the phone-book, and they handle people who are low income.
Also, as long as you have that paperwork you CAN SUE. I would be certain to give everything as far as evidence and all paperwork to that attorney so he can prosecute the case. You will probably have to pay him a percentage of the settlement, but if I were hurt that bad, I'd go for the gold.
There are many 'false claims' against companies for employee injuries, so do not feel badly if they have insurance inspectors knocking at your door. They will not call first. It's just their job and they are protecting the interest of the former employer(s).
Then, while you're waiting for this to come to court, you can check out some 'low income' rentals, which they may have available in your area. Also, there are many agencies out there, (Christian) who will sympathize with you in your current situation. They will contact your creditors and explain the situation and make arrangements with them so you can still pay on your bills without harassing phone-calls.
I hope these few suggestions helped; and I'm sorry for your injuries. I hope you get well enough to pursue some pleasures. Good Luck

There are several things you could do.
First I would go to your local social services office (if you haven't already). They will know what your options are better than anyone. There is something called a PRC grant (prevention, retention, contingency) that helps people stay independent and keeps them from becoming homeless or having to go on welfare. If you are eligible they may be able to cover your rent for a bit. You have to ask for this specifically, they don't hand it out.
They should also be able to refer you to some agencies with disability advocates in your area.
Another thing you could do is try to get into affordable housing. They take 30% of your income as monthly rent. This might be a good idea anyways if you think your disability income may not be able to cover in the long run anyways. Low income housing is not the same as government public housing (projects). They are usually privately owned. There are some links below with more info. the last one will give you a list of subsidized apartment communities.

Have you contacted vocaional rehabilitation services, there should be one in your area and they may be able to help.
It sounds as if you are going to have to make afew changes in your lifestyle for awhile. I had some drastic things happen in my life and had to go from living in a fairly upscale home to a mobile home at 1/2 the cost. I sold my newer vehicle to someone for the equity and let them take over payments. I now have an older car that I own outright, it isn't as nice but it is reliable and I only have to carry liability insurance because it is paid for. Sometimes life plays hardball with us. Yeah I miss my "stuff" but I'm going back to school to be retrained in something I'll be able to do, God willing, into my 60's or beyond and living at a lower means so to speak has allowed me to get a handle on what is really important. I will have you in my prayers.

God. I know where you are coming from. While you are waiting for SS to approve you, can you work for 4 hours a day anywhere.
If you claim bankruptcy you can keep your car if it is worth 3k or less.Since your credit is ruined, why not get a fresh start. Are you on food stamps?
Another life saver is to go to the Housing Authority and apply for rental help. Depending on the waiting list, you will be able to get rent help for the rest of your life as long as you fit in their guidelines. (This one thing saved me from being homeless) I am ivers605@yahoo, and could help you more. I know this is no fun.
Hang in there.

go to www.modestneeds.org. They may be able to help until you get disability. Also go to your local DSS and see what assistance you qualify for. You may be able to get food stamps and public assistance until you are in a better position. Yahoo groups has a group called freecycle where people post things that they are giving away for free to anyone who wants it. This may help also. I hope things improve for you soon :)

Well if you were injured on your second job and they lower your wage, and if your state is supported by OSHA, you can call OSHA within 30 days of the insident of an inspection.
