We are all free if we so choose. We make choices every day that simply affirm our slavery to the system, the society, the government and the religion. That's because people don't really want freedom as it is a double edged sword.

With freedom you can choose to do whatever you want. But you are stuck with the responsibility for the actions you take. Even failing to take an action is a decision in itself. Most people never figure that out. Instead, they blame all the above mentioned entities for what they do and let it circumscribe their lives.

The moment you step outside that artificial world and make decisions because it is what you believe you become free, no matter what the rest the world might believe.

Opportunity .... I looked up freedom in the thesaurus online as I do with many words to get diverse ideas. I think opportunity is really a good one for freedom, especially when you think of it in reverse, maybe if you are a teen when your parents won't let you do something ???? or you are black and can't ride the bus in the front, or other non-freedom situations, homeless maybe. privilege is also a good one, and as I think back on my 56 years, freedom often comes at a price, whether it be good behavior so you can be trusted, or someone dies in war so we can have freedoms in our country that very few others have.
Here are some others:
Synonyms: elbowroom*, exemption, flexibility, full swing*, immunity, indulgence, latitude,, leeway, liberty, licentiousness, margin, own accord*, play, , prerogative, privilege unrestraint

I assume you mean freedom in terms of rights and responsibilities (as opposed to free will and your ability to control events on a larger, more metaphysical level).

True freedom, to me, means being able to say and do as I want, so long as it does not harm other people or infringe upon their freedoms (and vice versa).

freedom to me is ability to do what I want as long as it doesn't interfere with someone elses freedom........when it does I likely am breaking the law, which doesn't interfere typically with my freedom unless I am caught by the law, or the guy whose freedom I interfered with confronts me. I disagree with Cherry's answer there is always a king (someone or institution with power over each of us). Even a dictator lives with the fear of the power of the mob that can overthrow him or the person near to him that stab him in the back..........no?

Independence. The feeling like it is OK to be myself and let others be themselves. Freedom is the polar opposite of order. Like two sides of a coin. You can't have one without the other. Too much freedom = chaos. Too much order = suppression.

Having lots of money that you can not even spend in your lifetime is freedom for me. I could do anything with it, that is my freedom. It is not love though.

Choice. The freedom to choose. The freedom to make choices that may allow me to succeed or may allow me to fail.

Freedom is a condition where we can do what we can do. Where nobody be the "king" of us.

The condition when we can got what we must got.
