This is a recent problem. I have had her for about three weeks and she has had runny stool from being fed too many wet greens with the pet store. I have been letting her eat timothy hay to get rid of her runny-ness. It helped but just today, six days after letting her eat the timothy hay, she has went to the bathroom two times and each time there has been a little blood around it.

I cant get her to the vet until monday or tuesday, so I would like to know what this is. I hope she's doing ok because my other female just got over a vitamin A defficiency and dehydration!* Its been a joy having them but theres been a lot of problems with them also.

Any help is greatly appreciated! Thanks!

(*PS- these are problems that they have come with... So I'm not stupid and I am taking care of them the way I'm supposed to. They're spoiled little babies......)

first off...only ppl who try too look smart go around putting everyone else down telling them they dont know what they are doing...so i wouldnt let their comments bother you...secondly, i am afraid i dont know that much about land turtle, i have always had the aquatic kind...but i think the first answer may have had it right about the hay cutting her up a bit inside, they dont have any true teeth for grinding that stuff up...unless of course you did it for her. if she will eat it, offer her some bread...that might help...that is done for dogs that have eaten sharp bones.

here is a site on russian tort care that might help some...good luck

Bloody stools are common when you change the diet from soft to fibrous.

The key here is to recognize whether it is a very small amount of blood, or a concern. If with each discharge it lessens, then it is not a problem usually.

You WILL want to ensure that the diet is proper and balanced, and well supplemented. One of my favorite places for good info on this is http://www.tortoisetrust.com.uk

I think they suggest a very well-reasoned diet and cae plan.

Maybe the hay cut up her digestive track? I really cant tell you. Usually this is an internal thing(obviously) I would bring her to the vet and have him check it out. Bring a stool sample and have them see whats wrong seriously
