You know, I love my Mum. However I've sat here for a few minutes thinking about your question, and what came out was this...
In a letter she wrote me recently, my Mum apologized for having made me carry and care for her responsibilities in my life. She apologized for the things I went through as a child (that for the record, many of were not her fault). She said that I was the most beautiful person she had ever met, a testament to grace and charity. She called me more than a daughter, more than a friend, and told me that she looked up to my inborn wisdom.
It's one of the only things my Mum has ever done in my life that really made me feel like she cared. I will never lose this letter. Every time I feel sad, I look at it. Although it makes me cry, it also cheers me up.
Like I said, I love my Mum. The nicest thing she ever did for me was to tell me these things that most people will never hear someone say. It wasn't just some letter. It was her heart through words. I will cherish it for eternity.

she respects me as a woman and tells me how much she loves me every chance she gets. Being away at school, I have my own lonely or mad moments (business school, sheesh) and she would know just when to call and just what to say to give me strength and motivation to charge forward. She'll even sit up and cuss with me so that I can laugh at her craziness! she sends me valentine's day presents and cards every year. sometimes thats the only present I get! i am thankful for her lessons on life and not shielding me from the uglies of the world.

For enduring that 9 months of pain just so I could live and for raising me and caring for me even though I can be really mean at times.

Sent me money when I was in a bind, and let me live with her rent free when I was old enough to have an apartment.
