The best way is to open the timing belt cover and look at it. And since you have gone through the trouble and expense to do that, change it anyway. If the belt ever fails, there is a good chance it could destroy your engine.

Is not easy to find out when the timing belt was changed,unless this car has good service reord in one car dealer..If this car in under 5 year old and less then 80,000 miles most likely not been change.Some car use chain belt and never need change.Most people buy a old used car not going to change timing belt(or never aware) until brake down.

i own a repair shop and unless you have a good maintenance record with the car, then you really wont know when it was changed on it ,you can pull the cover off of it and inspect it is the best way to do this,and if it looks old or worn ,or has stress cracks in it,id replace it right away,with a timing belt,if your not sure about it replace it they don't cost that much,and its better than buying another engine,or paying a big repair bill,good luck,i hope this help,s.
