That's a question that only the troops on the ground can answer. My question would be "do you want a convicted felon watching your back in the battlefield"?

It doesn't bother me, as long as they complete the waiver process. My brother is experiencing something similar, he was arrested many years ago for underage drinking and a few other minor charges, and he is worried about not being admitted into the military. As long as they show remorse or empathy for what they've done, and it doesn't show that they are habitually committing the same crimes, then why not let people start a new life and help protect our country?
I can see where there will be some cases that should not be allowed, and that is what the appeals process is for. Let's just hope that the people who judge the applicants are level headed.

Not the really serious criminals. No! Then have their convictions removed for time served. So many of these career politicians have done FAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAR worse crimes then most convicts.
Didnt Ted Kennedy kill a girl and didnt show up til 10 hours later?

ooh..... I'm sorry i thought you said convicted "animals" in the military. I was wondering what an animal had to do to get thrown in the ARMY. I definitely don't think animals should be thrown in the military. Although some animals do have natural body armor, like turtles, rhinos and such...... I might have to think about this..... OK, I thought it through. Yes, lets do it. Lets allow animals in the Army.

They can make it into politics. At least criminals are held accountable in the military.

I think it's the best place for them if they are not a threat to their fellow dudes. But I think that our military and government is full of just the types

sounds like a good place to send say 21500 for house to house searching in Iraq, let them really make amends for the crimes they did. We would be done over their in say two months. the right people for the right job:-)
I can see it in news
50000 insurgents kill in Iraq in two days of fighting.
One army man interviewed said -we be pop-in caps in their @ss
