If it is from a GSM carrier to another GSM carrier(T-Mobile & Cingular), then yes you can use your old phone, just as long as it is unlocked. You can request that your cell phone carrier do this, or google for a tutorial.
If you are going from a CDMA network (Sprint & Verizon) phone to any other provider it wont work, you will have to buy one from them.

You should be able to port your current number with your current phone to a new carrier. But you may need to pay a fee for the privilege, for porting the number and transfering the phone. Of course if you are still on a contract you will most probably be required to pay out the contract. talk to your provider , they can help.

Hi,
I'm not sure who your wireless provider is right now...but I was told by one provider that I needed to switch my phone over to the new provider....but I was also told by the new provider that I could keep my old phone from my old provider.
Needless to say, I just stayed with my provider and I didn't switch cell companies because of all the confusion.
My suggestion to you would be to simply check with your current provider and see what they say...then check with your new provider and see what they say.
Good luck

That may or may not be the case.

One would think for the most part that you would be able to use your phone.

Its a matter of if your phone works in their system.
