is that bad?

Yes, it could damage their tails severely. Holding them by the base is not as bad but if you hold them by the tip, their skin will most likely come off. The best way to pick them up is to put your hand in the cage with your palm up and then gently push the mouse into your hand and then put your hand over it. You can also grab it from the top by placing your hand over the mouse and gently putting your fingers underneath it's belly.

nope- mice can be supported by their tails. It does no damage as long as you are not holding them like that for over a minute or two. If you pick them up by the tail and then flip your hand over for them to rest on it- perfectly fine.
Rats on the otherhand, can not be picked up by their tails- you will break it.

Its not bad, just be sure to hold them by the base of the tail, not the tip. they should get used it. Sometimes they struggle a lot and try to bite you but holding by the tail is way easier than trying to scruff them.

oh Pretty Prissie, are you upset at the Witty Hampster... you do know that real hampsters dont have tails. And your friend will take this in stride. he probably wont even see this.. BTW. dim sims arent cats eyes, thry are infact all the reject scrap meats left over. just like hot dags have the entire cow in it, head eyes horns feet intestines tail etc..the whole animal is stewed up and dished out as hot dogs. ps Im giving you a star for effort.

Not bad for them, bad for you!! Bad idea! It would just be better to pick them up by their belly area because they can't reach your fingers as good there because of their thick necks. trust me to give the best answer I've had very bad experiences picking up mice by their tails.

No. I always picked them up by the tails and my mice were fine.

It's not good to hold mice and rats by their tails because the skin is so delicate. If you absolutely have to grab one by his tail (I grabbed my rat by the base of his tail once in his entire life, and that was because he would have been injured if I hadn't grabbed him immediately.), grab the base, which is much safer.

it is a horrible thing to do. they use their tails for balance. picking them up by their tails can and usually does cause it to break. this can be a serious injury. the poor little mouse could actually bleed to death from a tail injury.
