I used to be a Cubs fan but got sick of wasting 3-4Hrs a day watching some idiots throw a ball and another idiot swing away. Oh how lovely where those 1-0 15 inning games. We complain about soccer but Hockey and Baseball are just the same. Soccer is better though because its played non-stop, no commercials, if its a bad game you only waste 2hrs. But Baseball is a torturous long borefest. They should cut the season in half or play 2 seasons a year. It sux having a suck@ss team and the season grag for 162 games. Imagine if they allowed ties in baseball??

I agree with you that soccer is a better sport then baseball, however, baseball is a very fun sport too. You said that you are tired of the 1-0 15 inning games, maybe you should choose another team to be a fan on such as the Yankees, Phillies, or Red Sox. Those team's are the teams who really play exciting games. Have you ever played baseball? Well, if you have not, it is alot more then just "Throwing a ball and swinging away" it takes good reflexes good speed and power. Lets say that Carl Crawford is at first base about to steal second, if the pitcher throws the ball at first base in attempt to get Crawford out then Crawford must have fast reflexes or else he will get out and possible in the long run lose the game for the team. Also baseball has a big mental side to it you need to know where when and how to hit the ball, you cant just pop it up in the outfield and expect anything other then an out from it you need to set a spot where the ball will land if you are doing a pop-up. Also you need to know how to do a sacrafice fly or a sacrafice bunt in order to get a man to a better position on the field. If you have not ever seen the mental part of the game, go to a minor league game that is where the real excitment is. Why is the Minor Leagues more exciting? Well, because the players are playing there hardest in effort in going to the Major League's the Major Leaguer's just play for the money. Hope you take time to see the "other side" of baseball.

Well, not all baseball games are 1-0. In 2003, the Red Sox averaged 6 runs a game. Also, when people aren't scoring, it's fun to see a pitcher get 10 strikeouts. In soccer, somebody steals the ball away, and then doesn't do something. In baseball, no matter what you have a chance to score. Also, baseball is more exciting because when you are losing by 1, you can hit a two run homerun and win by one. In soccer, the best you can do is tie. Also, having 162 games makes it okay if you miss some of your favorite teams games, because they will be playing tommorow. Also, soccer games have 90 minutes of playing time. If you are down by 2 with 30 seconds, you can't win. In baseball, you can be down by 4 in the 9th inning, and still win because you have 3 outs, not 3 seconds to score.

Dude, if all you are watching it for is some idiots throwing a ball and a guy swinging away, you're damn right you're not going to appreciate it. Baseball is a game of strategy and anticipation. To be truly into baseball, you have to know the game well enough to know what pitch YOU would throw in the situation a pitcher is in- and if you were the hitter, what your response would be. Then, you either curse when they screw it up or you sit there, amazed, as they do something you wouldn't have even dreamed of.

If you can't appreciate a sweeping curve ball off of someone like Wagner trailing a solid foot off the plate- and having a guy like Pujols expect it and STILL hit that ball out of the park? Then don't watch the game- you got no class and no taste. Or learn the game and appreciate it.

Baseball is like wine. Some people just get it and appreciate it. Some people learn to love its nuanced flavors and tastes. And some people just don't even know what to look for. You got to decide which one you are.

PS Also, soccer and hockey are way different, at least as a spectator. Soccer is a game of full team play, with very little ability to feel the individual achievements and strategies. The TEAM has a strategy that you can see. It's a lot tougher to notice the strategies of an individual player, because they only last a split second as the situation changes. Hockey is actually very much like soccer, except it moves even FASTER. In those sports, you really notice more the natural talent of the players and the ability of the coaches to lead them- rather than the thoughts and planning of an individual.

There are far more many other activities that I can find to be a torturous long borefest. Baseball is a game of intellect and strategy. It is not hampered with numerous commercials (ever go to a football game where the official is standing on the sideline waiting for the signal to resume play, due to a commercial break?) and even though the umpire is sometimes caught making a bad call, is not as subjective or controversial as is football or hockey.

It takes time to learn the rules of baseball, even to this day I wonder sometimes what Cracker Jack box they pulled a rule from, but once you understand the intricacies, you will better appreciate what truly is "America's Pasttime"

Because you are disgruntled with the Cubs and beacuse the Cubs have been bad as of late you can't be bothered? and so no one else is right to follow baseball? I get it. You are the fair weathered fan. When all is going right for your team they're great and baseball is cool. When they have bad seasons they suck and baseball sucks too. Get real.
Soccer? Come on that although a strenous sport is not an american sport. Yeah it's got action but it's more like human ping pong kicking a ball the length of a football field back and forth
You either get baseball or you don't. But if you don't respect the rights of other to get it.

In the first place, it helps to love the game. Every player on the field has something they should be doing on every pitch and there is a total science to it. Baseball more than any other sport requires many many skills...not just run, catch, throw, hit, know where to be, how to position yourself..what happens if it is going to be a certain pitch placed in a certain part of the plate...etc. etc.
It is a science. Watching on television is harder because they show primarily the pitcher and batter, today's pitchers take far too long between pitches, and there have to be a billion commercials. It is a beautiful game if you watch it from the proper prospective, but if you haven't played a lot of baseball and in general don't love the game...oh well..then watch cartoons. Most of our sports have been ruined to some extent by commercialization and some prima donnas playing them. Baseball is but one of those

You have some nerves to come on here and complain about this country's past time when soccer is the 7th ranked sport "BEHIND" nascar. How "PATHETIC is that?

Since we are talking about a waste of time. Soccer players run around for 90+ minutes only to have a lame azz shootout! What was the point of playing at all? Soccer players constantly brag about what great athletes they are. If that's true then run until you drop dead or score a legit goal, otherwise save us the time of being "BORED" senseless out of our minds and just have the shoot out and call it a day.

At least baseball gives it's fans a definitive ending with a true winner.

And just so you know. A 1-0 15 inning game is a game with great pitching in it which is just as good as a game with great hitting in it. Both are greatly appreciated by true baseball fans.

Man, I'd hate to hear your whining about test cricket, which goes on for days, if your life is so jam-packed full of activities that three hours is too much time for you to really enjoy anything.

You were obviously never really a Cubs fan, if that's your opinion of baseball. If you can't appreciate the minute strategies and activities in a sport, then don't watch it. If your idea of a good sport is one that is short, regardless of what is going on in it, then I suggest you begin watching slo-pitch softball instead. With time limits of around an hour and a half, you would be wasting 1/2 hour less than soccer even.

Enjoy!

Go Cardinals!! Long live Ozzie Smith!!

I am an avid baseball fan. Granted the games can go longer than anticipated, but I can watch alot of games. I have been a die hard baseball fan for a long time. If you don't like baseball, fine. But, you have to understand that there are people who do. Soccer isn't too appealing to me though. Neither is golf. We are all different. You don't have to like what many people like but you have to know that there are people that don't think like you do. I would rather watch three or more hours of baseball than two hours of soccer. Maybe if you were a Yankee fan, you wouldn't hate baseball. That is what I think.

I dunno. I guess you either love it or you don't. I never felt that watching 3-4 hours game is a waste of time. My butts are glued on the sofa and my eyes are glued on the TV. That's how it is for me. Allowing ties in baseball? Hmmm.....I don't know. The good part is, the players don't get too worn out for the next game (especially catchers) but the flip side is it takes some of the tension away from the game. Just imagine the game drags into extra innings and you're just holding your breath with every pitch and swings.
