Dial up inter net Problem?

I have just moved and cannot get broadband, so had to go back to dialup, my computer keeps dialing up every few seconds, it interupts what ever programe I am using, I thought it maybe my automatic programe updates I have turned them off but it still dials up all the time, has anyone had this problem, I am using Windows XP Home.

Make sure it is not a long distance call to your ISP !!!

Listen for noise on your phone line. Your phone company can probably check line quality to the box outside your building without coming out on a service call. You might try replacing the wire from that box into the building to the computer if it is necessary.

You also might have a computer virus of some sort.
