I complete agree with your story. I work in retail too and people will do anything, and I mean ANYTHING, to save a damn penny. I think the reason why they argue because they still have it in their heads that the "customer is always right." Someone needs to make a sign on the door that says, "The new rule is, YOU CAN'T FIX STUPID."

Well, I guess I am your complaint. I'm sorry, perhaps you can afford not to pay attention when you are paying more for items than what they cost. At the stores where I shop it is the rare occasion when I don't have to stop at the customer service desk to have the sales rectified from the trip before. It's less about the customer being right than about the store always being wrong. Pardon, but my experience is not that I've looked at something wrong but that the stores have items labeled wrong. Maybe it would return to being the exception but for now I have to continue doing the store's job of getting it done right in the first place.
It certainly isn't about being stupid, thank you very much. Nor is it about overspending a budget. Some of us don't have the luxury of not paying attention and I'm oh so sorry to make you wait. Believe me, it's frustrating to have to police my own grocery bill and I hate it when others have to wait because of it.
By the way, if your money is no object and paying attention is a nuisance I have a $2000 car I'd love to sell you for five grand, minus the seats.

Because most people are assclowns. This counts double for coupon-clippers, since they are the ones that take special care to stare at the register screen while checking out. Coupons are ******* worthless for the most part...saving 25 cents off of a box of macaroni isn't worth the time and energy involved to clip, store, and present the coupon. I was in line behind some retard that was arguing with the cashier over a perceived difference of 85 cents on the total just the other day. What the hell possesses some people to be so ******* tightly wadded that they argue over change?
BTW, I am not rich by any standard, but lower middle class by many standards, and I don't have the nerve to ruin everyone's day over change I could find in my couch cushions.

Ya know, I was a cashier-bookkeeper for a major grocery chain in my city for almost 9 years, and this is a staple in that industry. Unfortunately, customers will not change and this type of behavior will continue.
We as associates have to give quality Customer Service to these consumers because they are the ones who make our paychecks possible.
To me it was always a challenge when customers would act this way..... I would overwhelm them with kindness, and before you knew it, they were smiling, chatting, and on their way out the door, only to return the next day with another complaint.
I found that it was better to bend over backwards and make the customer happy, rather than having them call the hot line and report me for being rude and inconsiderate...
Remember this....... The customer is NOT always right, but it's always wise to let them think they are :)

I guess we shop in different stores.
Once in a while someone does mention that the price rung up on the cash register isn't correct, and when the clerk checks, it often isn't correct. The machine hasn't been updated to match the shelf prices. At least, that's what's happened where i shop.

I agree...I work part time in a restaurant and many times when I give customers their check they argue about the price of the food/beverages...news flash, the price was on the menu...
I think people think that if they complain enough they will get a deal...

People just have to argue. I see it all the time. Im always behind the lady that does it. People are just ignorant. Things cost money, and they might as well eccept that. And they dont realize, the clerk didnt make the prices.*

That's weird. I have in my life questioned a total once, and I was the one who was right. I'd been charged twice for one item.

Yeah I know, most people are trying to get away with something. Please forgive my rudeness, stores make mistakes too.
