the best way is to not get them there in the first place. you do that by coating the inside of the container with a bit of olive oil before you fill it with the tomato-based product.
if the item is already stained, it will probably not be able to be cleared of all the stain. plastic is very porous and will hold onto the tomato item forever. you can try bleach, but then the bleach may damage the plastic.
try disposable plastic containers or glass jars for tomato products.
have a nice day!

vinegar will take the greasy out but not the stain, bleach works sometimes but not all, put the stained bowl outside on a warm sunny day and let the bowl warm up, then wipe with a dish cloth and make a paste with water and baking soda

My wife says that it won't come out. She tried washing the grand kids plastic bowls in everything and found that the only thing that works is to replace the bowls with new ones when they get too bad.

Try a product by Cascade called Plastic Booster 2-in-1. It removes red stains and odors. I've tried it and it works great! You will find it at your grocery store or Walmart!

Try spraying it with clorox 2. Let it sit for about 10 minutes and then wash with hot soapy water. Stains should be gone.

My mom always put a little bleach in her dishwater to clean all dishes (including tomato sauce stained ones), and rinse them thouroughly, and they always come out clean.

Bleach works. I keep a 50% solution in a squirt bottle because it's so cheap and it works on lots of things. Also, the dishwasher often takes it out since many detergents (but not all) contain bleach.

I have filled them with water and a few drops of bleach. Soak overnight, this usually does the trick.
